Having finally had a day off where I didn't have too many commitments I managed to finish off the 49th Infantry Division and the 8th Armoured Brigade ready for my Operation Martlet game using the KISS Rommel rules.

I thought you might like to see how it's going, so let's start with the 8th Armoured Brigade; the 'Red Foxes'…

Leading is the 12th (Queen's Westminsters) Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps (K.R.R.C.), with the 4th/7th Dragoon Guards, 13th/18th Hussars and the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry in Shermans. Artillery support is provided by the 147th (Essex Yeomanry) Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery.

Here's a closer view of the 12th KRRC with a British penny for scale:

And the 147th RHA with their Sexton self-propelled guns:

The close ups are a little brutal as they come out larger than real life (though if you're looking at this on a smart phone then they'll look just dandy!)

On to the 49th Div and here's the 146th Infantry Brigade (4th Lincolnshire Regiment, 1/4th King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and the Hallamshire Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment):

As with British Divisions there's a shed-load of artillery… he we have the 69th (West Riding) Field Regiment RA, 143rd (Kent Yeomanry) Field Regiment RA, 178th Field Regiment RA and the 185th Field Regiment, together with Major-General Evelyn H. Barker's command base and a battalion of Achilles tank destroyers (but I can't remember which battalion was attached for Martlet until I find my notes):

And here's the whole force; three infantry brigades, reconnaissance, and the 8th Armoured Brigade to the right:

And here's the German force so far – mostly finished but the bases still have to be done:

Reading off the ORBAT isn't as straight forward as it is for the Brits as this force was reinforced on a rather ad-hoc basis, but if I remember my notes rightly there are bits of the 2nd, 9th and 12th Panzar Divisions in there!

Here are some Panthers:

It's funny but I was pleased with the camouflage until I painted the based, then it sort of washed it out. Weird; I'll know next time.

Best wishes,

Nick
