Just some thought bubbles from a guy who hasn't played actual 40k since 3rd edition. I saw a lot of similarities in WH40K: Dark Imperium!

It sounds like you had fun… and that's the important thing!

I was taken through a game of the new 40K at last weeks show at St Helens. I was impressed and am buying a copy – at a discount of course.
The one thing that worried me was the multiple wound figures with no carry-over of excess wounds in a squad.

It works okay and might be better. With primaris marines there were a bunch of times we saw guys get taken out with 3 wounds when they only had 1 left. It might require some planning about how to optimize your shooting at a unit but it is best not to worry about it too much and just shoot as makes it fun.

I got a copy for Father's Day – the rules take up about 10 pages and seem a fair bit more fun than the last few editions

Makes sense though – you allocate "wounds" to models, not damage… if a lascannon shot does d6 damage per wound, then yes, you'd allocate the lascannon wound to a model and then roll damage, you might well do 6 wounds to a model with one wound left.

Don't worry about overkill, just eliminate the threat!

Yep, Centurio has it right…
