Are there any unique figures in the Perry's Battle in a Box? Conversely, are the other Perry plastic boxed sets in any way different from what you get in the big box? I have the battle box on order and will be painting the entire contents as Confederate. Hopefully the infantry will be universal enough to pull this off. Just slap a slouch hat on him and paint him butternut and he's a reb right? |

You get two plastic generals that are unique to the battle box, otherwise they are all available in the box sets. |

I am a purest. Some of the figures have shell jackets and some have sack coats. There are no figures in full frock coats. I won't put Union in shell jackets nor Confederate in sack coats. So I divided them up. The best figures without a doubt are the "pure" Union and Confederate -- not the "American Civil War Infantry" box and not the "Union Skirmishing" box. The latter really leaves something to be desired. When I ordered the Battle in a Box, and I assume it has not changed, you get some of the sprues with nice Confederate advancing, as in the Confederate box, but you do not get any of the Union. As I understand, those came out later and last. So to me, that is the biggest downside of all. I wish that I had just purchased the standard Union and Confederate boxes and foregone the Battle in a Box -- but oh well, I now have the fencing and house. And yes, I have the two plastic generals that are not sold separately. |

Thanks. This set has been pulling at my heart strings, and my wallet, but I have somehow been able to resist. Probably based on the number of unpainted figures for three other eras I already have. |

Thanks for the info. I must admit my profound ignorance on the issue of sack coats vs shell jackets. link But now I know. It looks like a sack coat is only slightly longer. I wish the Perrys would make some rebel models with bare feet. Someone more ambitious than me could do a foot transplant I suppose. |

There are plenty of period photos of Union soldiers wearing shell jackets so you can have a sprinkling of them mixed in with sack coats. They were issued to some regiments, l believe some New York state regiments, in some numbers. |

Esuire, the whole uniform thing ,both Union and confederate has been discussed at some length on the ACW boards. You are just too lazy to dig around the various post. I have some Perry figures, and really the main problem is that the uniforms are just too well tailored. Sash and Sabre have the look of ACW soldiers for me, confederates in particular. |

Quite a lot of the confederate soldiers wore home spun, which I assume could be almost anything. |
