Napoleon has defeated three of the four Prussian corps, two in the centre at Wolfsburg and the third in the south at Lehre. The fourth, 1st Prussian corps, holds the approach to Gardelegen in the north. This corps has suffered casualties at Jeggau, but has recovered and is prepared to fight. Both armies are short of supplies, and urgently in need of rest in order to reorganise and resupply. However Napoleon is afraid that if he does not attack at Gardelegen, Blucher will order his 1st corps to join the rest of his army at Walbeck. The battle of Gardelegen results in a draw. But as the Prussians hold their ground they claim is at a victory. A full report of the battle of Gardelegen is on the campaign diary blog here link |
