Hello Chaps As part of my 20mm Cold War set-up (c.1985) I am thinking of doing some Paras. I read that the three TA battalions were tasked at various times as a 'Folorn Hope' screening formation defending Hildesheim (?) with a massively increased allocation of MILAN. A parachute company with loads of MILANs strikes me as a fun gaming unit. My questions: 1) Does anyone have more info/detailed OOB for these units? 2) I'm assuming (I may be wrong) that they were in Land Rovers? If so what type? Air portable or Series 3? and how were these configured? Were the screens and doors still fitted? if they mounted GPMG how were these fitted? How were the MILANs carried? All the pics I can find are of much later WMIK Defenders which while lovely are not 1980s. I know this sounds like a lot of questions but any info will be gratefully received. Incidentally I plan to use plastic 20mm 'British Infantry of the 1970s' with added Para helmets, and whatever vehicles are appropriate. If I can convert Airfix 110s great, if I have to go elsewhere so be it. I see Oxford diecast are promising an Air Portable LR for future release as well as a One Tonne LR – not sure how long we'll have to wait though. |

There is a very active BAOR Facebook group that could probably supply the answers to all your questions… just a word of warning however… it is peopled largely by ex-regulars who regard TA units at times with a certain condescension – I can imagine already some of the comments you may get… :-) |
