Yes your right. Remember it also includes the postage as a part of final value fee and Paypal will get its 3% and .60 per transaction.

I listed three items where even the final value fee was waived because if a soecial offer.
I think I get 50 listings a month with no insertion fees but I still have the final value fee.
Quite possibly this is because ebay has many store listings now who are charging at or close to retail so trying to encourage individuals like myself to get back to selling.

Right, they charge the same percentage on the shipping now as the final price (presumably because sellers were shifting costs to the shipping to avoid the commission fees).

well, if you can find an auction sight that delivers international exposure at less than 10% commission I should use it.

What worries me more is a decline in views and prices achieved. I recently returned to selling after six year absence and was surprised to find far fewer views and bids being made. Putting it on for 99p and letting the market decide what its worth means a good chance of selling it for 99p now. Overall prices are lower and more items remain unsold. That's on figures, books are just not wanted anymore.

Just my experience in the UK, may be the economy may be changing buying patterns or just fewer buyers. I am interested in others experiences

I have never sold anything on E-Bay so I am not versed on these issues.

However I used to buy books all the time. I would have bids on several books so that I had to keep e-bay open even in the office. I have lost count of the number of books I have bought on e-bay but I would say it was close to 100 or so.

As to johnpreece's point above – I have stopped all of that now because the postage costs skyrocketed a few years ago and now I hardly ever even open e-bay to look. I realise that the Royal Mail is mainly to blame for this but I am still shocked at some of the prices quoted for postage. The final bid might be 99p but the postage will be at least 10 times that even for very small books.

I would say there are many others like me and this could account in part for the drop in views.

Ebay is dominated by retail sellers, its getting difficult to find auctions from gamers looking to move a few extra models. Its gotten worse over the past year for some reason, with fewer and fewer n0n-professionals listing.

As above – I tend to use it to buy things from retailers. I've sold a few things recently and made good money but it doesn't seem to be such a rich source as it used to be. I used to use it frequently for buying second hand fishing gear but that is nowhere close to being as good as it used to be.

Are folks saving their stuff to sell at shows and conventions?

Are folks saving their stuff to sell at shows and conventions?

Dunno in the US and UK, but in Spain most second-hand exchanges between gamers have moved to facebook groups, where people list their stuff and agrees a price without intermediaries involved.

Yes very much the same here- mostly buying and selling on forums. Still buy a bit on eBay- not sure that I'd bother to sell there, too much hassle.

I have been selling heavy on ebay for last few months, I have taken a short break. Ebay has gotten better about some fees and worst about others. I think the power in eBay is the paypal protection, But on the 15th I just HATE paying my fees.

I've been selling on eBay for 19 years and the last few have been more contentious with customers trying to scam me. In the last 2-3 years I've had several issues on big ticket items.

A bigger issue is the bulk seller tool I used for years went away making my library of thousands of items useless.

That has been a real disincentive for me to continue selling there.

However, I have to commend eBay for backing me up on every single occasion and ruling in my favor. Previously the seller almost always took it in the shorts on disputes.

I have decided to cull the herd again and have quite a few things to move out but just need the time to do the postings. Some day…

Yes, the 10% FVF on both the item and Postage charges has been standard for several years; If you can sell enough, you begin to get discounted, "preferred seller" rates, (minimum sales US$1000 in the last year, recalculated monthly or quarterly?) (Rolling calculation); last time I qualified, a 20% discount, thus 8% FVF.

The Domination of the listings by "Professional" sellers and retail merchants is there, but if you live in the sticks, it's still the global platform

US International (Retail) postage Jumped 80% or so in 2015; Pretty much killed outgoing foreign sales on smaller items.

I don't sell to anyone outside of the USA due to the postage . International tracking is non-existent unless you pay for it and the cost become too high for the buyer.I am going to try selling other ways and try to get out of using eBay after the next few months.

If I had locals to play with, I would GIVE some of my stuff away;

This is a problem in any marketplace, caveat emptor, there are lots of folks who think they are Walmart. Or something.

The historical (ancients) listings are flooded by an arbitrager, I am not sure how much is his lifetime collection, and how much the $.99 USD stuff he scoops up and relists. But you have to sort through 400-500 of his listings (and all the "terrain" and "Basing") products to find the things you might really be interested in.
