I really should be more patient and get that bay horse matt varnished, I must add the traditional stirrups and even get them based, but it was a very wet Monday and these two had been sitting there for many months.
What makes them early? The open round neck above all, the waistcoat look and the flared sleeves, the different headgear on the chap in yellow. His head is a plastic Perry Mahdist's, his body is a Gringos40 Lithuanian Tartar (comes with a waistcoat but tight fitting breeches, so Greenstuff ++) and the arm is from someone by Perry (I think plastic). The second chap is simpler, but again a Gringos40 Mameluke head onto a padded out tartar.
Harder to explain the cornfield and fallen Russian officer in the Sinai (actually maybe not for the latter!)
More pics here, but the images below give you the idea.

Thanks. Ged, you would not dare…….

Perrys yesterday released the 2e Eclaireurs that I wanted for years…so much that I spent money on figures to cannibalise and ages on conversions…..and their end result is far better.

Not sure I got the lighting right here. There is far more highlighting and shading than is obvious, please believe me. Both baggy trousers look so monochrome here. They look far better in natural light…….

In all seriousness, the early Mamelukes allow even more variety of colour and "uniform"…but what you make is what we see in all the books.

Well done Deadhead!
The Conversion figure in particular has a very natural face! Indeed, the entire lot looks properly dramatic and I love the two guys carrying the giant "whatever they are" look equally daunting:)
Two thumbs up for this gang!

Many thanks.

I had meant to again show them pre painting to show how the conversion worked.

The four "tougs" around the eagle are quite substantial for any horseman to carry, but they do look right.
