Hi
I found so very helpful information on the Austrian Hussars and Infantry on earlier posts, but I am a bit stuck on the Dragoons and Cuirassiers.

I have seen pictures of a cuirassier from 1849 which appears to show the Napoleonic yellow woolen comb has been replaced with what looks like just a brass comb. Furthermore it seems to just have a metal plate on the front. Then I look at other sites and the pictures seem identical to the Napoleonic Helmet. Any idea which is right? Also Green or White for the dragoons, or can it be either.

Many thanks

Hi ABC,

In 1866 Austrian Cuirassiers no longer wore the Cuirass. Their helmets still had the crest, but it was topped with a brass strip instead of the comb, and the front bore a brass double headed eagle, not a plate. The same helmet was worn by the Dragoons. There were only two Dragoon regiments in 1866, both of which wore the dark Green uniform.

Hope this helps,

Mollinary

Brilliant thanks very much. It confirms what I thought. Much appreciated.
