I'm currently reading Joker One, Donovan Campbell's book about his Marine platoon in Iraq in 2004. One of the unusual terrain features he mentions: garbage heaps. There was no functioning garbage collection in Ramadi, so the streets were full of garbage, and heaps of garbage ran along the south end of town. How would you model it? |

I believe he also wrote "The Leaders Code" which I really like. |

Ive got heaps of garbage mixed in with rubble in my Fallujah table. I mixed in small crumpled bits of paper, tiny chunks of painted toothpicks for cans and such, busted up balsa wood that paints up as unrecognizable flotsam, rail road ballast of course and then the occasional recognizable item such as a chair, table, tire, boxes, part of a bicycle and whatever I can find in my parts bin. Painted up with some garish colors here and there and it makes good garbage heaps. Also, I shred up tiny pits of colored paper, VERY TINY, along with balsa shavings VERY TINY, and sprinkle these liberally along the roads and alley ways. The over all effect is pretty good. Ill post a picture when I get a chance. |

Hmm … I wonder if a few large decals of photos of garbage heaps could be superimposed-layered on top of an otherwise gray-brown primed pile of debris, much the way some people decoupage stuff on craft projects. Just Google garbage texture or rubbish pile texture and you'll find many photos like these for ideas on what the decals could look like: link link link Dan PS. If that crazy trash decal idea hasn't been tried yet, just remember where you heard it first. :) |

I have read several books about the early Iraq fighting that talk about the trash. It would be different looking from what we in the West see and think of. Here is a link to a goo gle page of pictures. link Another thing that gets mentioned is the downed power lines. There was a lot of make shift wiring and this was brought down in fighting and bombardments. It especially became troublesome when moving through such an area at night. |

I would cover a "lump" shape with all the offcuts from my painting table. Scrap MDF, sprue, flash etc. Prime and paint. I'd go for a grayish color then add lots of blobs of color for the various bags etc. |

Nice models ! I'd think you'd would probably see a lot of garbage/heaps of garbage/rubble, etc., in a much contested MOUT battlefield. Like Fallujah, Ramadi, Mosul, etc. And it sometimes was booby trapped/IED'd, etc., based on reports I've seen. That might be something to add to war game rules as well. In 6mm it's generally pretty easy to make/represent this type of battlefield/terrain. [Sorry for the blurry Pics. I'm going to have to retake the lot in that album …]
With heavy "rubbling" like this. Much of everything would be dust covered, etc. from what I've seen in the media, books, etc.
