I have two projects that I am near completing.

One is an egg timer, with traditional glass.

the other is a scenery piece with a red crystal/glass piece.

Is it safe to spray varnish either of these two items ?

I will be using the Army Painter Anti Shine spray

(usual caveats WRT to sparkle apply)

I would expect the glass to become a little less transparent after a spray of varnish.

I would apply a mask to it before spraying (like liquid latex, or carefully cut-to-cover masking tape.) Otherwise afterwards use a cotton swab dipped in thinner to remove the dried spray (but I'd really go with the tape option above…)

Thanks – this confirms my suspicions.

The red glass/crystal piece has been prized off its base (AD&D Thief skill I am sure), so that's solved.

The egg timer glass, is going to be very very difficult to mask. I think what I'll do is simply spray the base/end whilst the rest is firmly wrapped in a plastic bag or similar, and do each end bit by bit. They'll be the parts the item will be picked up by.
The later pieces is an inspired pieced of scenery for Frostgrave, I'm sure it would help Chronomancers cats their spells.
