Back in November I posted pics of my first units for a project concentrating on the 1944 battles in Normandy.

I was never really happy with the results, so the minis have sat unpainted and unloved since then. Today, though, I had the bug so I dug them out and tried again – and this time I'm a lot happier.

Each base is 25mm square and represents a battalion. The minis are Picoarmor 3mm scale.

Here's today's efforts:

So, to break them down, here's the 2nd Northamptonshire Yeomanry…

And (I think, but I need to go back to my research!) the 151st Field Regiment, Royal Artillery:

As I was in the 5th Bn Light Infantry (an antecedent of the KSLI), this is the 4th Battalion King's Shropshire Light Infantry:

I love the old British Army regiment names – here's the 2nd Fife and Forfar Yeomanry, with a Firefly to the right:

Finally, here's something to give an idea of scale; the Northants next to a British penny:

So, I think I've got my mojo back for this project. As you can see I've elected to go for plain painted bases and I've still got to do labels, but I'm definitely happy with progress so far.

Best wishes,

Nick

Hi Nick, great job. I am super tempted to do something similar to what you did.

How did you cut the infantry strips? They are hard as titanium.

Cheers Repaint, I cut the strips with pliers. I was going to arrange them in a proper formation but just doing this was hard enough! They are certainly tough.

Great work very nicely showing the advantages of this scale. What camera did you use to get such good photos?

I agree your painted plain bases an improvement and you seem to have hit on a good vehicle color as well. What are you using for your bases?

Bozkashi Jones03 Jun 2017 1:46 p.m. PST

Thanks guys.

The camera is just my phone – I'm one of those guys who has no idea what phone he has, I think it's a Motorola?

Vehicle colour is Halfords camo spray paint sold by a motor factors here in the UK for about £7.00 GBP for a big can – it seems matt green is a car colour now and with a light dry brush with Vallejo Iraqi Sand I'm really happy with it, unlike my first attempt.

Bases are PVA (white) glue sprinkled with Games Workshop sand. I spray the whole lot with the Halfords green, paint on Vallejo olive green and dry brush yellow ochre.

Nick
