"Just over 7 years ago I played my first game of Flames of War after literally years of wanting to try it. This was towards the end of 2nd edition. I had tried to get the game going back in the 1st edition days, and I even bought most of an army, but no one locally was very interested so it never got off the ground. After that first proper game I was hooked and Flames of War soon became my main game pushing out others such as Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40,000. Most of my time with Flames of War has been with the 3rd edition rules and for the most part I thought the rules were fine. There were a few things I would have changed but I felt, and still feel, the core of the system works great.

Along comes Team Yankee and things start to get weird. I was not really interested in this game, and I still am not very interested, but a few of my friend are and jumped right in. They all seemed to really enjoy the game and most seems to like the card based unit creation system. My friend Tom, after getting into TY, was convinced that this would be the model for Flames of War v4. I wasn't convinced this would be the case and I wasn't even convinced that there would be a v4 any time soon. Well, I was wrong on both counts and, as we all know, version 4 was released a couple of months ago and it is 99% Team Yankee (I am actually referring to Mid-war version 4)…"

Wish I could disagree with you… but I can't. I'll probably pick up MW Americans because I've always wanted to do the army right (Kasserine Pass) and I'm reasonably sure I'll still be able to do a bang up historical list, but that's about the extent of my ambition…

… picked up my first Bolt Action miniatures over the past few weeks… BA actually now supports a greater variety of units and formations than FoW for MW DAK. I never thought I'd say that…

For me v4 has given me a good starting point.
Here is a 400 point game that we fought last night.
Half the points are mine and Roy's, built from the new plastics. The other 200 were Eli's and Don's, veteran players. It was the first time their armies had been pulled out in over 3 years. link
Another new player to fow showed up and got a game in this past Sunday. Next week Eli is pulling out his Germans and Russians for us to try out v4. Seems you can still use the old book lists.

You can use the old books for EW and LW… for now…

MW you need to use the new books, which have had the force options "streamlined" to within a hair's breadth of oblivion…

MW you need to use the new books

What's wrong with using the old books , with the V4 EW/LW rules ? idea

Version three book army Lists. Why not use them? I am not going to buy who.e new USSR codices just because " edition flipper flapper" says so. We are talking historical forces, not fantasy sci-if. I do however want to build that 2000 point STUG battery. ( the only non soviet army I would like to do)
