Interesting list to choose from. I've been a fan of Eleanor of Aquitaine since reading 'A Proud Taste for Scarlet and Miniver' as a teenager, but was does she really have to do with Robin Hood? Same goes for the other historical characters – I don't generally see them in the context of the Robin Hood tales.

And when talking about Robin Hood and his merry gang of mythical companions, which version or interpretation? Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Michael Praed, Jason Connery, Sean Connery, Errol Flynn, or another take?

I love the Alan Rickman version of the Sheriff – others not so much. Well, with the obvious exception of Basil Rathbone (although he was Guy of Gisborne, not the sheriff…)

Anyway, consider adding Ivanhoe and the Green Man/Herne the Hunter to your list

Sheriffs of Nottingham, as well as Guys of Gisnorne, are required by law to be sneering Bad Guys. Good with a sword, but nowhere as good as Brave Sir Robin.
I like good Bad Guys.

I've always liked Friar Tuck for the Merry Men but Robert Shaw's sheriff in "Robin and Marian" is a very appealing Bad Guy.

Mandatory additional character of incongruous ethnicity? (Nasir/Azeem/Ahchoo/Djaq)

Every character from Men in tights!
By far the most realistic version of Robin Hood.

As a taxman for 32 years I always had some sympathy with the Sheriff and his men. Just doing their job against a bunch of thriving thugs.

Alan Wheatley !

Baron Simon de Belleme from Robin of Sherwood, much more villainous than the Sherrif (who is after all just raising taxes in order to ransom King Richard — it's the thieves fault that Richard is imprisoned for so long!)

Robin Hood himself, preferably as portrayed by Richard Greene in the classic 1950's television series. Most of the cinematic versions of recent decades have been utter rubbish.
