Has anyone already made a comparison of these two new rules? |

Hi No direct comparison as such but have played both recently (see my Blog sgtsteiner@blogspot.com) I really like both but they are slightly different beasts GDA has a more overt Command and Control system via the use of ADCs(Orders) with possible inertia due to failed rollls whereas OTH has a 'everything can move' style constrained only by optional Orders system (very like Gen De Brigade) such as Adavance, Attack, Hold etc OTH has more formations available to units such as Closed Column. GDA has Small Standard and Large units (aka Blackpowder) with limited Recovery of hits. OTH has unit strengths as well (more like Blucher) but hits more readily recoverable. It also has army lists and a terrain generation system and Victory outcome. Both are slick in execution and both model period fairly well IMHO whilst generating a fun game. GDA subsumed several dice rolls into its Charge Outcomes table (aka Fire and Fury) whereas OTH has a couple more phases to charges but both result in similar outcomes Both sets are well illustrated (if that's your thing) and well supported on line by authors. GDA is better laid out and so far with less Erratta as OTH has a basic game and then a plethora of optional rules which can make for a more confusing read at times. GDA is soft back OTH hardback. GDA has ODF version I say get both as both enjoyable and playable with the same toys :-) |

Hi again Should say there are of course other differences in Seq Of PLay Neither set uses figure removal (except for Skirmish stands) so any figure basing works. OTH has Skirmish stands in front of Individual Bttns (1-3) whilst GDA has Brigade Skirmish screens (base line i stand per Bttn in Brigade). Both allow Light Inf to use Skirmish Formation. OTH also has OPen Order. But again both play well and without any major problems |

May I ask, when I've seen OTH played, there seems to be some sort of cribbage board present with lots of pegs in it. What is that? |

The board is simply an aid to recording morale levels of Brigades and overall force. Could be done with chits or pen and paper but the boards are easy to use |

Thanks for the answers. Have both now on order |

I can only buy one. Which should I choose? Which has the most period feel? I use 28mm, 12 fig infantry units 8 figure Cavalry. |
