Did any of the Scorpions/Scimitars or LVTP-7s and Panhard AMLs see combat during the Falklands? Were any knocked out? I know the terrain limited their use. I've read a few books and can't recall if any saw direct action. I've also seen images of a Scorpion/Scimitar with a track thrown off, but not sure how that happened. Any insight is appreciated! |

IIRC the LVPT-7s were gone by the time the Brits got there. Damon. |

At least one LVTP was KO'd by a 66mm M72 during the initial landings |

IIRC the Scorpions/Scimitars were popular since the had night vision. |

I used to drive CVRT (Scorpions) in the 80s, the tracks were really easy to throw. All you had to do was to pull a too sharp turn, and you'd be track bashing for the next hour. |

I read the scorpion and scimitar handled the terrain well as their track surface pressure was less than the infantry walking. Seem to recall they were used on Wireless Ridge with 2 Para. |

Didn't a Scorpion of the Blues and Royals hit a mine or something. Not a Brit but really followed the cinflict at the time. |

I did some googling and apparently a scimitar hit a mine and was later recovered by Chinook. |

I remember talking to one of the gamekeepers on the local garrison shoot a few years back. He'd been a Blues and Royals Scimitar gunner in the Falklands and they were used to provide fire support during at least one attack. I can't remember where but Wireless Ridge rings a bell. |

Yes, IIRC, I saw/read about Scorpions and Scimitars being there. And I'd think they'd primarily do recon and Infantry support as needed. I used to drive CVRT (Scorpions) in the 80s, the tracks were really easy to throw. All you had to do was to pull a too sharp turn, and you'd be track bashing for the next hour.
The last thing an AFV crew wants to hear. Breaking track … and all that follows … |
