The idea of the basing is using stuff I don't need to paint just scatter. The main one used here is a bit on the coarse side for the scale but I've just ordered some on ebay which might with luck be better.

Ah, rules. In a state of flux at the moment. The whole project is organized along 'One Hour Wargames' lines but I've taken a shine to Memoir '44 and the Command and Colours genre all told. So looks like I'll end up with some kind of hybrid system on hex terrain. Memoir cards with OHW rules perhaps?
