"I'm Out Too - Taking a Long Break" Topic

Yea, I know, I expect the usual, "don't let the door hit you in the butt on your way out" replies, but I'm tired of all the silliness of late too.

Don't know when I'll be back – could be later tonight, tomorrow, next month, or a year or three from now. Not really sure, but I'm way beyond fed up today.

Censorship in the Blue Fez, AND now, recategorizing my hypothetical, What-If Korean War and Ultramodern Gaming posting, to Ultramodern Warfare, so I can't even see the replies.

If I can't see them, why should I even post anything around here, when the editor, on a whim, will delete, recategorize, etc., etc., ad nauseum.

For what it's worth, the anti-missile test by the USA worked today, so we're 5 for 8 on knocking them down, for a not so robust, 62.5% success/kill rate in swatting down inbound ICBMs. Better than nothing, but you're gonna need to fire 2 – 3 of those per inbound missile to get anywhere near a reasonable survival percentage, or expect to lose the population of a large city.

It's been fun, and I may drop by, from time to time, if I have a question I need answered, or to offer some help to others, but I will be 99%+ less active than before, not that most of you care anyway.

Still, thought a few of you might want to know.

The reason Mako11 is upset is because, when his North Korean Scenarios topic became more about warfare and politics than scenarios, I moved it to the Ultramodern Warfare board where it then belonged.

He complained to me, I explained my reasoning, he then got in my face about it… and that's it.

Why do we have to bring snowflakes into the conversation. This is a board on toy soldiers.

Modern US politics has become bitter and divisive -- can we keep it out of the toy soldiers world.

I don't think there are any snowflakes on TMP unless the definition has been watered down so much that it is any opinion that is in the minority on any topic discussed here. If that's the case, on a site devoted to playing with toy soldiers, we need to check ourselves.

I just LOVE how this "SNOWFLAKE" is completely acceptable around here. Anyone who "thinks for himself" is a damn "SNOWFLAKE". The disputed post in question TMP link clearly belongs on the UM board. Mako11's "wargaming related" posts are often ill-disguised op-ed pieces that express his political opinion on an issue. For example, the following unsubstantiated allegation in the post regarding China vis-à-vis N. Korea shows a clear bias against China:

I'm a member of various forums across the internet. Some I visit frequently, others not so much. I never feel the need to make an announcement that I'm taking a break though. Some of you people love drama.

Lol. It seems like everything has to be "couched" for some people these days. I miss the days when people were able to say what they thought and the rest would just chuckle, or shake their head, but all would go about with life without being feeling all provoked or led about everything.

Be that as it may, the UM board has become a microcosm of our deeply divided nation (by which I mean the US, not being an "arrogant American" here) and had gotten more people from both sides of the political spectrum DH-ed than perhaps any other category on TMP (hence some people call it "dawghouse bait").

UM topics often escalate into emotionally charged and heated debates, and before we know it personal attacks and insults are hurled among the most vocal advocates of the opposing viewpoints.

Yes, we shall all miss Mako (some more than others), but also the other former "usual suspects" like Rod, Stu and Legion (granted, the latter's account is not locked but nonetheless he's no longer a participant on the UM board due to his propensity for getting DH-ed for it).

You are right. It's easy to get seduced by a topic there, and then get caught up when it gradually escalates.

Oh well. I come onto TMP to discuss painting miniatures and rolling dice. I have worked and continue to work in areas saturated with the topics on the UM, I don't understand those that can't compartmentlize the issues between political opinions and gaming….

Some days I think to myself TMP is becoming a reflection of Facebook in the way that some postings degenerate into folk posting inappropriate, sometimes offensive, and socially awkward content. It seems to be the way of the world where boundaries become blurred online, and there has to be someone to reign in the perpetrators and restore the normal balance. Some of the conversations recently on here would have been better off posted on Fb or elsewhere IMO.

As I have said before, I've never been anywhere of seen anything like the vitriol, hatred, anger, derision, etc., as much as I've seen on TMP and sometimes on FB(don't go to FB save for a couple of pages).

It's like the entire net(world?) is all about being mean spirited, attacking others because they think, act. or are differently than you do, etc. So that is a blank check to go "postal", mean, insulting, rude, etc. ? It shouldn't be if we are supposed adults, I'd think.

Who really cares what others think or feel about a certain topic ? If you disagree with some or dislike them because you don't like them personally, etc., etc. … So what ? Do you think your opinion really makes a difference to any one or effects anything in the real world ? I'm pretty sure it doesn't …

Realizing, many time things don't necessarily come out as it would if you were taking face to face, etc. Words, etc. comments, etc. get twisted to fit existing biases, narratives, etc. Taken out of context, read into, etc. Part of this IMO is all about the PC, etc., nature of many and how that has evolved. And the thin skin many have. But no one should be surprised it they throw stones. They won't be thrown back and more.

But even with that … there is reason to have such hatred, etc., to others because they in some way think or are different than you ? Is not that the basis for much of the PC, we are the world, etc., concept/paradigm. Even if I'm not a total adherent to that type of thinking.

"Cyberbullying" is easy to get into because of the anonymity. People are much less concerned in offending you when they're behind a keyboard than in your face for obvious reasons.

I have said something like that frequently. And it seems to be proven correct as often on TMP. And places like FB as well.

I'm not celebrating anything … But I don't have to be frequently attacked by those that think differently than I do. I'd think that would be obvious … yes ?

And I personally have reported few of those from the number that have attacked me. Some of which were s from elsewhere, clearly. Bill clearly saw it as the personal attacks that they were. He has always been the deciding factor of that, regardless.

And as I have frequently said, if someone throws stones at me … I'll throw them back and sometimes more.

If smacked … I won't turn the other cheek. That concept has long been out of my responses to those that want to not have a civil conversation, etc. And go right to personal attacks regardless of what I post, regardless of what it is. If you don't see that … well that is on you, I guess.
