Hi,
As the title says, did the 4 regular chasseur companies in a Legere battalion (I do not mean voltigeurs or carabiniers) have a plume in full dress in the period say 1805-1812?

If they did I am sure they did not use them on campaign, but I was wondering if they were ever issued them? Or was it just a pompom?
Cheers
Nigel

PS The reason for this question is that I am assembling 25mm Victrix figures and have many head/hats with plumes unused.

From 1805-1808 there were nine companies per infantry battalion, line or light, and that would leave seven fusilier/chasseur companies per battalion until the reorganization of 1808.

The wearing of plumes and epaulets by chasseur companies (or fusilier companies for that matter) would be up to the regimental commander, and perhaps even the chef de bataillon.

Uniform regulations were enthusiastically ignored by regimental commanders which was the main reason the 1812 uniform regulations were written and implemented. That was the first set of uniform regulations for the entire army, with the exception of the Imperial Guard which had its own set of uniform regulations.

Traditionally, the four chasseur companies wore tall green plumes, tipped scarlet. Several examples are shown in the Rousselot plates.

In one case, he shows the 2nd Leger in dress uniform, with Carabiniers with bearskins, Voltigeurs with half-yellow and half-green, and chasseurs with have scarlet, half green plumes. Very colorful!

Thank you both. Furthermore can I confirm epaulettes for the centre companies as well?
