I am working on a web site and I want to install a photo sharing / uploading page. What I want is this:

It has a simple upload page where you find a picture on your computer, and it gets uploaded to the web site and then displayed in a gallery.

BUT

I need one that is browser based so, for example, Uncle Jim can upload his travel pics. Aunt M can upload scanned photos of ancestors. Bill can upload his birthday party photos.

Everything I've found is FTP oriented.

We have already considered and rejected commercial sites like Flickr and Photobucket as we want control and ownership of the photos. Also we want them hosted with the web site, not "linked."

Suggestions?

Some web hosts have a photo gallery – I believe 1&1 does.

I used Jalbum back in the day:

jalbum.net/en

You will likely need to be on a dedicated server or vhost to be able to install it.

@RKE: Yes, but they use FTP for uploads….

@Cloud: That looks just like what I need, thanks!

While I am a Mac guy these days, Windows Exploere used to be able to act as an FTP client that is even easier than a Web-based approach. You type the FTP information into the address bar. Then the FTP site looks just like any other folder. You then drag and drop images into the folder and Windows Explorer does the FTP PUT action in the background. This is one of the VERY FEW features that Windows has that Mac doesn't do as well or better.
