Note that the first picture is a Soviet uniform from the 1980's…

The East German reenactor has made some errors… he has a leather brown satchel slung over the shoulder and another brown strap for something else (not sure what the second thing is…)—these are not worn by NVA soldiers.

Something useful does show up in the photo however. East German AK-47's and 74's tended to have the East German manufactured brown plastic stocks and pistol grips. These are a very dark brown and have a pebbled texture. They always felt very cheap and breakable to me.

Here's my contribution:

The brown satchel is a map case, you can see the signal flags sticking out of it on the end. The other item with brown strap is a radio in the bag. This reenactor is wearing the proper gear for a squad leader as he also has binoculars.

Squad leaders did not carry signal flags (those were used in the battalion transport company) and squad leaders certainly did not have radios. I don't think even platoon leaders did, although there would be one in the SPW or SPz. There was a radio operator in the company troop, however.

The map case looks like something the Grenztruppen may have used? Just a guess.
