Been puttering on this for a while now. That is a regular MKP supergalactic dreadnought alongside for scale.

You're scratchbuilding a SGDN??? (I assume it's the gray model in the photos.)

Please elaborate!

Sorry.. yes. The super-superGDN (the grey model) is scrachbuilt.

Very impressive from the complex detail level through the size of the ship.

BTW the paint scheme on the other ship great.

That's really a nice scratchbuild on the same theme – exceptional detail, and I would love to see a tutorial on it! :) dr pepper

Looking good.

Always wished I'd bought a bunch of those, back in the day.

Lots of neat ship designs, and factions to choose from.

They are still available.

Mako1124 May 2017 2:59 p.m. PST

Thanks VS, I was wondering about that.

Love your scratch-built design, by the way.

That is indeed, impressive work!

I'd love some tips/hints on what you used to make them, and/or a tutorial too.

The hull is plastic sheet laid over a balsa plug. Everything else is just parts from the parts and scrap box. If you look close, you can seee\:

NKE Egyptian shields
Thracian shields
Saxon shields
Sung Chinese Halberds
1/700 missle tubes, radar dishes, life rafts, catapults, gun tubs, gunless turrets, etc
axle clips and other hardware
A cut up island from a 1/700 Essex
A cut up AQMF Martian dust launcher

I'd like to say I just threw it all in a box with some glue and shook for a couple minutes, but it does take some thought.

If I can find them I have done a heavy cruiser and frigate also.

TheStarRanger25 May 2017 6:21 a.m. PST

Oooo I like that. Take all the weapons on the SGD….and add more. Your other scratchbuilds are great too and I wouldn't mind adding them to my fleets if MKP or anyone would be willing to make more of them.

Now I always wanted a full gun version of the Terran Galactic Battlecruiser to compliment the Hybrid Carrier/Battlecruiser that they currently have…..

The super-super would not cast well as there are too many undercuts. I have approached MKP about offering up the cruiser and frigate but have had no response from them in the past.

In the back of my head, I hear Cypress Hill.

'Insane in the membrane, INSANE IN THE BRAIN.'

Sad they can't be reproduced.

I suspect less about the undercuts than the hull construction; balsa can be problematic to mould.

Doug

PS I'm biting back my inner pedant. 'NKE Egyptian' is redundant, and I'm 'ancients dumb.' ;->=

Thanks for the tips on your construction materials.

They did come together very nicely.

Larry, don't you DARE paint that thing until you've contacted Ravenstar Studios and offered it to them as a prototype!

Are you listening to me, Larry?!!! HELLLOOOO?!!!!! evil grin

You scratched that!!!! Oh man that is seriously good. I have a load of the "originals" but could never work out how best to paint them. But live the ships cranes etc. That is Star Wars film school building there
