When you are in the zone painting, what is your choice of ambient music? Is there a website for your music station?

Pictors Studio19 May 2017 5:36 p.m. PST

I listen to podcasts and audio books when painting.

When driving these days I'm listening to London Calling by the only band that matters.

I tend to ping between my two great loves: classical music and classic country. This afternoon has been a perfect example: painted for a bit to Bruckner's Second Symphony, now listening to old time country (pre-1970) as I cook supper.

Rotundo19 May 2017 6:32 p.m. PST

Baseball, this time of the year.

Celtic of all types (Scottish, Irish, Canadian Maritime , Breton, Galician, etc) , Scandinavian, jazz, and classical music. I do a Celtic program twice a month and a classical program every Wednesday morning at our local community radio station.

The never ending ringing in my ears. It seems to get louder every day. The upside is that while painting the little people and things I usually don't hear the phone ringing off the hook by telemarketers. (:O)>

Great War Ace19 May 2017 7:06 p.m. PST

Epic and classical and new age and just about anything but rap and country…………

Winston0119 May 2017 7:38 p.m. PST

This type of year I listen to baseball also. On Saturday morning I listen to the two hour talk show on the team and paint since it is just talk no visual stuff.

The sound of silence--no, not the song, the real thing.

Dashetal19 May 2017 9:03 p.m. PST

WYCE, a community radio station that plays a mix of Folk, Blues, Rock, Jazz & World Beat. All the programmers are volunteers. The rules are simple they play a mix of the format drawing from many thousands of CDs. Every 4 hours they have a a new programmer on who is allowed the freedom to chose the selections being made. The station can be installed by a search of the internet for WYCE. Try it if you like variety and non commercial music.

Cyrus the Great19 May 2017 9:08 p.m. PST

Silence is golden.

KSmyth19 May 2017 9:28 p.m. PST

I listen to a mix of Mariners baseball, or a choice from my record collection. Mostly classic rock or R & B. Today it was Soundgarden . . . Sigh.

sillypoint19 May 2017 11:13 p.m. PST

I used to listen to sport, but I kept on ripping my garment when my team went down, I had to let that addiction go. 😎

Swampster20 May 2017 1:45 a.m. PST

Occasionally a US classic rock station, but usually something from the BBC iPlayer. This might be classic or contemporary comedy, music, drama or a documentary. The archive of 'In Our Time' is such a rich vein that I revisit again and again. Last time I listened, I heard programmes as diverse as the shape of the universe, and the origin of the Dominicans and Franciscans. That was especially appropriate as I was about to paint some monks.

King Monkey20 May 2017 2:29 a.m. PST

Last Stand is a really good book!

I also agree about In our Time. I have loads of them downloaded. Pritzker talks that various authors give on their history books or just military related topics are also quite good!

The not very muffled sounds of my parents' TV/Radio in the room(s) next door – my father is pretty much deaf and doesn't always wear his hearing aid.

(Currently "between houses", without my own sound system, squatting in my parents' dining room).

My stereo in the basement is so old I still listen to cd's of standard rock and roll. Springsteen, Talking Heads, Midnight Oil, Elvis, Cheap Trick, Beatles, Peter Gabriel, Social Distortion, Pogues. The list goes on and on.

It's also a good way to keep track of time, since most cds are about an hour long.
