Dear Friends,

Due to a number of threads that have been going on recently, I have decided I no longer want to be associated with this site. I have been thinking about this for a longer time, but some recent threads were the final straw.

Over the years, I had many good discussions, esp in the Games Design board, but it's time to move on.
I'll remain active in some of the other wargaming forums, and through various blogs. Hope to see you there.

Why would anyone read those threads? They are like watching the Evening News – a train wreck you CAN look away from!

There is a lot of good stuff that you can look at without all the artificial angst.

Paint figures, roll dice, play games, ignore distractions!

You could just not read those threads, you know

I honestly don't understand. I've learned to stay away from the threads in the TMP forum. There are a few folks I don't pay a lot of attention to. But this is still where I go for miniatures stuff, other than forums that focus in on specific games. I haven't really gotten into the organization of LAF.

I feel sad when names I recognize stop posting, whether I saw a post like this about leaving or not.

Edit: This thread is proof I see some posts in the TMP forum. :)

I miss many of the old posters also. I really do not understand what is happening. TMP is the easiest site to enjoy. I just became of member of Lead Adventure Forum, but I don't go on it much because it takes some work to see what is there. (Lazy?) What happened to just sharing miniatures pics, rules sets ideas and learning something from people who are more knowledgeable than I am?

Good luck Phil – I'll miss your contributions

I'm always kind of fascinated by these posts on hobby and sports forums, as if the site is going to crash if they leave or that there will be some kind of populist revolt resulting in pleas to have them return. Within a few weeks most people won't even remember who they were and life will go on. There are literally thousands of hobby forums, blogs, etc., and if you don't like things on one you can easily move on to others.

However, that same phenomenon of having so many outlets means that each of them in a way is getting watered down. It's not just on TMP, but you can see it on other forums and hobby sites. Topics that in years past would get two dozen answers now can barely get a handful. The hobby has become spread thin, with everything anyone could wish for available at their fingertips, but the depth is definitely in decline.

Over the past couple of years, I've learned (or is that learnt!?) to disable such forums as TMP talk and TMP Polls and so forth. My experience here has been richer for it. I was blissfully unaware of any such threads until it was brought to everyone's attention through this thread.

Sorry to see you go Phil I do hope you reconsider one day. When you stick to the subjects you are truly interested in, there is no other place like TMP.

PJ ONeill19 May 2017 11:05 a.m. PST

I'm sorry to see you go,Phil. I have learned much and enjoyed all of your posts. They were a wonderful resource on game design, which I am dabbling with ATM.
I guess I set my filters years back and have not seen the posts that have caused you to leave.
Which of us are less fortunate ?

Yes, that is too bad. This is one place you can get a variety of views. I hope you continue with your blog.

An excellent idea.

Just like "Who asked this Joker" I just turned of all the general boards and have enjoyed TMP a lot more. I'm to old for all the angst and drama that seems to happen on those boards clearly I need to turn off the "wargaming in.." boards as well as angst and drama has leaked on to my front page….

I'm sorry if you were offended by the response to your post about not calling WWII Germans, 'Nazis'. I'm afraid some people thought you were being historically snobbish.

Or maybe is just a person being polite and explaining his usual interlocutors why he won't post anymore.

I'm going with "not" on that one.

aegiscg47 makes a good observation.

He no longer wants to be associated with the site, WOW, ain't he special! Don't know him, won't miss him. Screen door, arse, etc. Won't miss weasel either. I thought he was a jerk in the offending thread that got him dawghoused.

Leadjunky19 May 2017 4:11 p.m. PST

I am familiar with LAF, but what is ATM?

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian19 May 2017 4:23 p.m. PST

ATM – at the moment

Andy Skinner Supporting Member of TMP19 May 2017 5:58 p.m. PST

I will very much miss Phil, Weasel, and others. And I do think they're just letting people know. The original message above is straight-forward and not dramatic.

Much like an alcoholic complaining there is a wine department in their local grocery store. It's not the store's fault you can't stay away from areas of the store that are not good for you….

Cacique Caribe20 May 2017 8:35 a.m. PST

JSchutt,

Well said!
