What to expect? Easy. Mind games and misdirection:

"The supreme art of war is to subdue your enemy without fighting"
"Pretend inferiority, to encourage his arrogance"
"If your opponent has a choleric temper, irritate him"
"The good fighters … wait for the proper opportunity to strike at their enemy"
"The skillful general is successful in his attack when the opponent does not know what should be defended (or attacked)"
- Sun Tzu, ancient Chinese military genius

Vietnam learned to use some of that against us:

We think we are prepared for war, but we are still really clueless about "warfare".

I'm kinda surprised that the Chinese are going to build one carrier with steam catapults before going to railcats. Sure, the tech is absolutely mature, but why retread the past when you can jump past it? (I'm looking at Africa and how there are still basically no landlines but everyone has a cellphone)

Maybe because EM cats are new/unproven and traditional steam technology would make a good fall-back?

So they're going to build one with ski-ramp, one with steam launch and one with EM like our Ford class.
