This discussion TMP link threw up the proposal that "Silly Is Good". How, in this world of endless sorrows, hardship and grief, do you rate being silly ? 1) Silly is good. 2) Silly is good, sometimes. 3) Silly is not good. 4) Not a wargamer. 5) A wargamer. |

I think I have made my position clear. Again and again. |

Look, many of us are only interested in a few periods – that means much of the other explicitly wargaming content is dull as rocks. If I can't get immersed in my horse and musket periods here, I'd much rather talk about rock and roll than WW1 naval, or 6mm ancients, or 1/285th sci-fi, or whatever else that is without interest. |

WW 1 naval is an interesting one – I enjoy reading about it, I never game it. Don't know why really, but there it is. |

I'm silly 90% of the time, if my silliness drops below 77%, I need to watch blazing saddles/airplane to fill up the silliness. |

1) "How, in this world of endless sorrows, hardship and grief, do you rate being silly ?" Laughing on the outside, crying on the inside. |

Silliness is a useful tool for deflating pomposity, dogmatism, hectoring, high dudgeon, and mean-spiritedness, in a good-humoured fashion and without falling into those same pitfalls. The worst that can be said is that one is being a bit… silly. |

Nearly every good memory I have involves at least a little silliness. I welcome the silly. |

Of course silly is good, and anyone who thinks it isn't is just plain silly. My mom has repeatedly asked me to ensure that I teach my children how to be silly. It relieves stress and takes the sting out of much bitterness in life. Me I LOVE silly songs, silly jokes, silly puns, silly food, silly movies, etc etc. |
