Are there any allies left? Or is Taiwan basically all alone now and ready for plucking?

Even if they are alone, getting across the strait and sustaining an invasion is going to be pretty tough just by itself. China is working on sealift capacity and will more than likely be in a position to get enough brigades and supplies in the first lift to make serious inroads on the island in the next 5-10 years. However, I'm not sure if Japan, Australia, the U.K., etc., would stand around just letting it happen. Also, the U.S. has not abrogated it's responsibility to come to the aid of Taiwan as far as I know.

Taiwan has always stood alone without international recognition of nationhood thanks to the official "One China" policy, but there's little chance China will take over the renegade province militarily because China much prefers the "soft power" approach of social and economic integration.

Recent developments have shifted in China's favor in the region. Not only is Duterte's Philippines fully onboard with China, but Vietnam just expressed its desire to negotiate with China over their SCS disputes and S. Korea's new president is also more pro-China than his predecessor.

China also plans to build a new "Silk Road" connecting Asia with Europe. The center of geopolitics may shift unless the Thucydides Trap (i.e., war with China for getting "too big for her britches") comes to pass.

What the hell happened? Why a frickin' "SNIP" on part of my post?

Hasn't Taiwan been deserted by most of the superpowers?

PS. I guess I shouldn't be surprised with any censorship on the subject of China. After all, based on what we already get from our own media, they are our greatest ally and the last best hope for our future, right?
