I am ordering my Japanese cavalry, and in looking at the Osprey "Boxer Rebellion" it shows them in dark blue uniforms with red frogging and trouser stripes, with a red band around their cap. However, the "Russo Japanese War" volume shows an officer with red britches with a green stripe and a green band on his cap. This volume also states that the cavalry arm of service color is green. Can anyone tell me which is the correct color scheme ????

Imperial Guard (including cavalry) used red bands and piping on their hats. That might explain what you're seeing.

This may be of great help as well:

Agree with above – Japanese line cavalry had green trim
