I appreciate this is a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but what is the realistic smallest army that can provide a decent game. The Warlord Online Store has 'build an army' which gives you 1x HQ Command 2x or 3x or 4x Infantry Section (depending on nationality) 1x Support Weapon 1x Transport or Armoured Car 1x Tank I appreciate that it may be perfectly good enough to get a taster just wondering whether it is enough for a decent game and if not what needs to be added. Cheers, Nigel |

I've played many games at the 500 point level, and really enjoyed them. You don't get to bring all the toys, and you need to work hard to protect your assets…it's more like a true platoon with one or two support weapons. They also play a little faster, which is often good for my schedule. |

I have had a lot of fun with 500 point games too. |

I would dump the tank from that list and possibly the A/C. Just keep it to infantry. |

I think the absolute smallest force, that still gives a fun game, HQ + 2 Infantry Squads (divided into fireteams). I don't know how many points that is, we never use points. But we have had a blast playing at that level. Normally we add a machinegun or mortar to the defending side and a extra infantry squad to the attacker. |

We don't use points either, but we'e had plenty of good games with a platoon each or two platoon in attack one in defence. For the latter it's worth experiments with splitting the defending squads into gun group and rifle group to get roughly the same number of orders dice. |

or use Chain of Command to be able to use your squads/sections in two groups as standard. |

Just did a quick battle today. AMERICANS had 3 squads plus MMG & 3 man HQ. Germans had 2 squads, an MMG, medic, and two commands. A leutenant plus higher ranked officer. Germans won. Germans dug in. Played in about an hour |

I have played an assortment of games and enjoyed smaller point games of just infantry but to me the game does not hit its stride until about 750 points or more. At 750 points you start having allot more choices and allot more variables that can make the game much more dynamic. |

If you want to play platoon versus platoon try Skirmish Action rules. Lee |

Thanks for asking Nigel. I just bought the rules today and was wondering how much I need to paint before starting out. |
