Can't find any info saying if they were heavy or light horse. Anyone know? Thanks.

Lights. Chevaux-Legere Lanciers = Light Horse Lancers.

Sorry if I butchered the French spelling…

Nothing wrong with your French, Mserafin ;-)). But allow me to point out that the Chevaux-Legeres were line regiments. Green coats and helmets. The Polish Guard lancers were blue coated and with a chapka, their fellow lancers (the 2nd regiment, called the Hollandais, were red coated.
All lancers were definitely light cavalry.
gamer1: see this link that will be very helpful, at least if you are interested in the 100 Days Campaign.

Thanks guys, I figured they were lights since from what research I have done it looks like regardless of the nation anyone on a horse that used a lance was "light":)

"Premier regiment (polonaise) des chevaux-legers de la Garde Imperiale," originally. I'm away from my sources, so not sure if they added "lancier" to their title after 1809.

The French lancer regiments, line or Guard, French, German, or Polish, were light cavalry.

The original title or designation of the Polish regiment was the Chevau-Legers Polonais. In 1809 they became the 1st Regiment des Chevau-Legers Lanciers.

When the Dutch were taken into the Grande Armee in 1810, their Guard Hussar Regiment became the 2d Regiment des Chevau-Legers Lanciers, who became the famous Red Lancers.

In 1815 there was one Guard Lancer Regiment, and its 1st Squadron was Polish, the rest were uniformed as the Red Lancers.

Okay one more quick question did the Polish Reg fly the Polish Flag or a French one and same about the "Red Coasts"?

Both regiments of Guard lancers had Eagles with the standard pattern French flag.

julianmizzi11 May 2017 6:35 p.m. PST

light cavalry with a lot of punch.

von Winterfeldt11 May 2017 11:06 p.m. PST

those eagles were never carried on campaign

But look good on the wargames table, along with their full dress uniforms
