I think you need better exposure to properly bring out this dark color palette. In many shots the faces (face grills) are very hard to make out as well as the recessed body detail. Not being familiar with the models, I couldn't understand what these represented until I went to the GW site to look at their painted version, then I could come back to your photos and realized what was underexposed. It looks like you are shooting on a white display area with backlighting. That may be throwing off your camera's autoexposure. Try a less bright display background (light blue maybe?). Or try turning them around so the curtained window is throwing diffused light on the front of the models. And/or use a pair of direct lights directly on the models. Or switch exposure to manual and try longer time or wider aperture. |

The bloke offered you some photography advice to bring out the best of you painting efforts for others to appreciate and you act like a spoiled child. |

Yeah…he was just trying to help. I am all for this type of bashing if it helps me improve. |

I also don't see this as bashing. You've spent a great deal of time painting and detailing your figures, which is lost in the photography. In this case, the details you wish to share are obscured rather than highlighted. The lighting makes your models look more like of a "heroclix" type than illustrating cool colors versus the warm colors on the other models. I have to click on the photos and enlarge them eliminating much of the white background in order to see your excellent work on the dark armor. I've been in the same boat. I've been just as guilty of taking bad pictures which did a disservice to the brush work on a model. And I've always appreciated advice on how to take better photos as well as advice on improving my painting. |
