A royal recumbent what? Figure? Effigy? Recumbent is an adjective and should be followed by a noun. Grammar police leaving now….. |

Unless we're being all archaic and wantonly medieval and ye olde in our grammar, in which case an adjective following a noun is no great wonder (c.f. Siege Perilous, castle royal…). For a royal to be recumbent, yea, and a noun withal, is doubtless a frequent state of affairs, though I admit I've met only one royal in my time, and an Italian princess probably doesn't count. |
