10 or 15 years ago I chanced on a book in the library, in the reference-only section, that listed every American general officer of World War 2. Each person was listed with their dates of rank, and I think it had their assignments/positions. The book might have included Marine generals and Navy admirals, and not just Army generals. My Google-fu is failing. Does this book description ring a bell with anyone? Thanks, Ed |

I took a look using Bing (better imho than Google) but all I discovered was that we had during WWII slightly more than 919 flag officers (BG/RADM[lh] through 5-star officers] There are 'flag officers' who are not Generals or Admirals, but I could find nothing on them either [WWII, that is] |

I took a look at the excellent Stone and Stone website. I think this is the book to which I was referring. Ancell, R. Manning and C. Miller. The Biographical Dictionary of World War II Generals and Flag Officers. Westport, CT: Greenwood Press, 1996 stonebooks.com |
