Most of them I have seen but not City of Life and Death, and I want to see it now. Read a couple of books on Nanking. |

Interesting list. Of the films that I have seen, I would not consider them to be good or even watchable a second time. |

Other than Downfall (which I thought was good) and Three Kings (which is action-y) of the five or so movies I've seen from the list, they're all major downers. Which I guess is why they're war movies for serious movie buffs and not war movies for war movie buffs. |

I have seen 4 of the 10. Letters from Iwo Jima was the only one of the ones I have seen that was worth the time to watch it let alone pay to watch it. Like Red Jacket I don't think I would care to watch it again. The others I have seen were crap and I have no interest in even seeing the other 6. |

Rather arbitrary list and I dispute the premise on some of these. The Killing Fields, when it came out, was well regarded and won 3 Oscars for example. |

I think Rescue Dawn is a good film, Thin Red Line was ok in an arty pretentious way. The rest, not so sure. |

I've seen all on that list except for 'The Missing Picture' and the animated 'Waltz with Bashir.' They're mostly art films with anti-war messages that depict the brutality and senselessness of war, but also the power of hope and human kindness. |

Since when is "The Killing Fields" a war movie? |

There is a version on YouTube of City of Life and Death, actually 2 but a more official version isn't working and another in 2 parts is a bad copy maybe even copied by a cell phone in a theater. Watched it anyway but really would like to see a good version. |

Someone should tell Esquire there were wars before WW2 And I thought Downfall was pretty well received. Maybe they thought nobody watches films with subtitles. I agree with Sobieski The Killing Fields is not a war film. |

I have City of life and death on blue ray, It had some really good war scenes at the start then it's two hours of horror and inhumanity. Still a great movie, but sure is depressing. Tae Guk Gi is one of my all-time favorite movies. Amazing war scenes if somewhat Hollywoody at times, but not much more than SPR. Also quite moving, especially if are close with your own brother. |

Thin Red Line had some well-filmed sequences, but it felt like "Comp Lit Seminar in combat" to me. I've read Jones' books--there is a lot of introspective narrative, not the sort of thing that easily lends itself to the big screen. City of Life and Death is very good and depressing. Tae Guk Gi is good--if a little but overly-optimistic regarding the capabilities of the ROK Army at that particular time. |
