Heroscape: Road to the Forgotten Forest

It's a terrain expansion for Heroscape, but will non-Heroscape gamers be attracted by the trees?

I'm working on a 20mm Pacific project and have found eBay a great source for cheap trees and other plants. The trees seem to be made specifically for model railways and other scenery needs. The shrubs are simply aquarium plants. Nothing new for a lot of people I know. I've found they all benefit from some paint before they're ready for the table top. More on these and on the Pacific project on my blog The Tactical Painter

Here are some coconut palms I've been working on, the ones I've used are those in the bottom half of the picture. They come in ready coloured plastic, but it all looks a little too plastic for my liking:

So I wash them in detergent and then prime them:

Then paint the fronds with an airbrush in a mix of flat green and yellow green. The trunks and dying fronds were painted flat earth:

The trunks were dry brushed in sky grey and the dying fronds in tan yellow. All up fairly quick and simple for a pleasing result:

Really nice work.

I just dry-brush the leaves with yellow-green and the trunks with medium gray. If I'm feeling ambitious, I glue some scraps torn from used tea bags to the base to look like fallen palm fronds. Yours look way better than mine.
