Anyone able to suggest 28mm Ancient Greeks without shields? I'm looking for figures for use in Frostgrave that have an Ancient Greek theme (daughters request) – I have the Warlord hoplites who cover the Man at arms and Knight classes, but I'm looking now for unarmoured types without shields and with either javelins or hand weapons, and also users of two handed weapons (with leather and metal armour.) I only want a few of each type, so sprues or metal packs. Based in UK so ideally UK or EU sellers. Happy to head into near-greek and fantasy territory if required. |

For the first type, it sounds as though you may be looking for what are called "psiloi". I doubt whether you'd find much for the second, as the Ancient Greeks rarely, if ever, used such weapons. Nevertheless, if you could find separate "staff slinger" arms, you might convert Hoplites into armoured clubmen of some kind. Anyway, Victrix sell "Greek Unarmoured Hoplites and Archers" in plastic. Warlord and other manufacturers such as Foundry sell "psiloi" in metal. |

Victrix Plastics are nice and could fit your bill. However two handed weapons are more of a Thracian thing in this period… although in the 500's BC era Phrygian or Ionian axemen might have a Greek look. There are many Thracians in 28mm, however they are not usually armored on foot. Phrygians might be harder to find. Phrygian axeman reconstruction:
Old Glory has them-- but in large bags and more 25mm:
Thracians, A&A are big robust 28mm figures and come in blister packs.

Victrix sell peltasts, javelinmen, and slingers, too, which are probably much closer to what you may be looking for than my earlier suggestion was: link Foundry: link There are quite a few other manufacturers, too. |

Since it is for your daughter & Frostgrave is a fantasy game, hopefully you'll have a few Amazons sprinkled among the warband. Perhaps even a sorceress in Greek-style clothing. Here is a female Greek hoplite with sword from Reaper: link If you only need a few light troops, the Foundry javelinmen and/ or Thracians would be ideal. Troop types carrying two-handed weapons were rare in the ancient world. If you only need a few, four or less, perhaps fantasy Conan-type barbarians. The female sculpts will cost a little more, fantasy figures often are higher in price than historical figures, but a sprinkling of a few "Wonder Woman" and Circe/Medea types might make the game more interesting for her. I know from my own experience, it is hard to immerse myself in a game without female representation of some kind. |

@AF: Great suggestion! I had pondered that question myself, but realized that I wasn't familiar enough with the full extent of available female figures that aren't overly sexualized. I also wondered if his daughter might have insisted on using male figures for some reason. Regardless, Amazon archers could well even be historically plausible, since the Greeks already did hire male Scythian (or Scythian-looking) archers. Bad Squiddo Games would be one good option for almost one-stop shopping for female figures: badsquiddogames.com |

Hello, yes, I've stocked up on Bad-Squiddo stuff :-). The Tinley female wizard provided the sorceress, while I've done a number of head swaps to make female hoplites (no boobplate needed under a cuirass) so her band is very well gender represented! |

For double handed weapons I've gone for Macedonian Phalangites – the victrix models have them holding them two-handed, while the shield I think I can either leave off or model on the back, so that gives me a two-handed weapon in at least the right part of the world. I'll probably head swap one or two so they can be female also |

That would work! Two-handed weapons in Frostgrave are likely more for cutting or bashing than thrusting, so pikes may be a bit of a stretch (pun unintended). Thus, you may want to consider trimming the pikes and making two-handed clubs or axes out of them. |
