Ran a German vs Zanzibari game at LittlevWars this past weekend. The Germans marched resolutely forward despite harassing fire from a Dhow but ultimately failed to take the trading post, largely due to an Inability (or unwillingness) to utilize the artillery.

It was a very pretty game in person, Rich. Excellent job!

Rich Bliss01 May 2017 10:00 a.m. PST

Thanks. Th game ran very smoothly as well.

Tom Reed01 May 2017 11:16 a.m. PST

What rules did you use?

Rich Bliss01 May 2017 11:25 a.m. PST

Mars needs Steam. Frank Chadwick's as yet unpublished exploration and small unit combat rules.

Can you give us the basics of how it works, Rich?

Rich Bliss01 May 2017 4:27 p.m. PST

Individually based figures
Leaders/Heroes have specific skills
Combat results effect individual figures Kia or pin
Movement is simple but requires a leader
There are rules for vehiicles and super weapons (It is VSF after all)
There is an encounter phas where random creatures, natives, natural phenomena can impact your units.

very very nice..RB..thanks for showing us your game…
it's incredible that with such an array of forces (historically correct) the Wismantruppe did'nt succeeded, as it happned in reality, to wipe out the arab slavers…
please may you tell us about the arab fort?..i was looking for a similar modular item to use in Colonial wargame with various army/theatres..is it a scratchbuild piece/MDF/Resin?

Rich Bliss02 May 2017 5:27 a.m. PST

Tthe Germans didn't take full advantage of all of their assests. In particular, the gun didn't do anything other than look good.

The fort is actually laser cut MDF from Warbases. They sell a variety of kits that you can assemble in what ever configuration you need. Highly recommended

Top notch!

ITALWARS02 May 2017 6:07 a.m. PST

thanks for your suggestions..i will have a try with it..up todays i never experimented with that cheapest easiest solution for buildings that is MDF ..in fact i read that they should'nt be painted because the details would be deleted ..while in fact your buldings seem to have painted and they are Ok

Rich Bliss02 May 2017 6:27 a.m. PST

The Warbases are not very detail as received. To get the 'stucco' texture, I sprayed with dry wall orange peel texture and then a light tan matte spray paint. Finish with a white craft paint dry (damp) brush.

Smokey Roan02 May 2017 5:21 p.m. PST

lightweight spackle, and craft acrylic paint, 50/50 mixture, slopped on with a brush is best.

(Not that yours is deficient, its beautiful).

Also, thin plastic (styrene) brick/stone embossed sheets (cheap on EBay in model railroad searches, go for "O" scale for 28mm) can be glued on, and a spackle overlay around edges gives the damage/wear and tear effect.

My one bit of advice: Use a dremel, or simple hand file, to round up some of the edges, especially the top edges, even having duvets and grooves, to show some wear.

Love your set up. The dhow is a thing of beauty

Rich Bliss02 May 2017 6:26 p.m. PST

Thank you. And good call on the brick sheets. Gotta get some of those for a couple of building I'm got on the list to do.
