Howdy,

Played a fun little game this afternoon, at the Hobbytown in Frederick, Maryland, US. Played with 15mm figures, the action is shown in a series of photos from the game.

Photo 1 - Village of Lower Bumpka, looking south

Photo 2 - Village of Lower Bumpka, looking north

Photo 3 - Warband of Torik Brokenose

Photo 4 - Saxon warriors hide in the orchard

Photo 5 - Village defenders

Photo 6 - Encounter!!!

Photo 7 - Archers scattered by sudden charge of the Saxons

Photo 8 - Saxons shattered by viking charge

Photo 9 – Approach to the village

Photo 10 - Entering the village

Photo 11 - Time to plunder

With their plunder, the vikings will head back to their camp. Perhaps they will encounter Lord Bogen … more to come.

It was a fun game. Played in about two hours.

I like those buildings. Can you please tell me who makes them? Thanks.

Was it a Hobbytown, U.S.A. store? If so, I wish our Hobbytown here in Everett, Washington would host historical games and have a dedicated space to play them and demonstrate to the general public. Unfortunately, they concentrate on radio control cars and planes…

Howdy,

Sorry, I bought the village painted & assembled at the flea market from Cold Wars. I cannot tell you who makes them.

Yes, Hobbytown USA store, I'd talk to the store owner, he might be agreeable.

Torik Brokenose here. I had the honor of commanding the Viking host and plundering Lower Bumpka. It was a smashing good game, everything a Viking loves! I thought the rules were excellent. They captured the flavor of the period without being overly complex, and we were able to grasp the mechanics in a fast flowing two hour game. The Saxons had more men, but half of them were green and needed direction from their betters, which we found to be crucial to success. Aside from the leaders of the two sides, the Viking Huscarl unit were the only troops on the board with armor, which proved to be a real advantage storming into the village. Still, can you believe those village dogs killed two of my Huscarls before we put them to the sword? Still, they fought bravely, so we contented ourselves with carrying off the plunder and not putting the buildings to the torch. Salute.
