A really simple question… does anybody know the largest number of 95th Rifles fighting in the Light Division in the Peninsular? I have OOB right up to Vitoria and a bit beyond but these only give combined totals for each of the Light Division brigades. From the info I have it appears as if they may have received a significant number of replacements prior to crossing into France. Could anyone shed more light on this? Thanks in advance. |

Greetings Not sure about France (I have a book on Tarbes I will try to track down) but at the Nivelle in 1813 the battalion strengths (per Oman vol VII App VI p539) were: 1/95th 31+532 2/95th 23+503 3/95th 23+327 Regards Edward |

wasn't there just one battalion of the 95th in the light division for most of the penninsular campaign, with a second one added just before crossing into france? I'm sure i read something to that effect in D'urbans "rifles"… |

For the uninformed, what do the numbers mean? example: 1/95th 31+532 I think it means first battalion of the 95th Regiment, 31 officers + 532 enlisted. Is that correct? Thanks |
