Could be my Byzantine project is back on…

Sorry, but I can't find the Fireforge page about these figures on their website. Can someone supply a dcirect link to it? Are they metal or plastic?

Huscarle29 Apr 2017 1:27 p.m. PST

1ngram, They are plastics, really looking forward to these.

Yet more stumpy legs: the feet are about where the knees would be if the proportions were correct.

Holy Crap!

I like them. "Byzantium" covers a LOT of time – almost as much as "Roman" does, so some sets (the first, if I am correct) will be most welcome.

@Martin – Proportions in 28mm always were off, especially around the head and hands. The length of the legs in these minis is not worse then in any other set of FF or GB – unless you assume they wear a miniskirt…
Realistically reduced persons would look skimpy in that scale. Hät comes close, if you like that style, though they do not mix well with other companies.

Finally! It will be really nice if they also do plastic kavallaroi.

Re: Proportions- Yes, 28mm has never been about proper proportions. 1/72 scale plastics are the ones that get proportions right.

these look very nice indeed.

And it covers a lot of time too. As much as I love these new minis, I am more interested in 6th century Justinian/Belisarius campaigns. Always a bit of a compromise as to what was worn when and by whom, especially the campaign(s) in Italy, where so many Goths switched sides at the drop of a hat (usually full of gold) and back again afterward.

Quite a diverse group. Seems like, outside of the Emperor's own bodyguards, Belisarius' private army may have been the only "uniform" (and I use that term loosely) troops in the empire.

Will we just get spearmen or will there be archers in the same box?

Will we get a choice of round and kite shields?

Happy you like them guys!. (smile)

Just looking at my own Fireforge foot sergeants, it appears that the pictured figure above is based on the same dolly as one of the scale-armoured sergeant bodies, which just happens to be the worst proportioned one in the set. Presumably the other sergeants bodies, which are better proportioned, are also used for the Byzantine set. If so, the overall effect should be acceptable.

In fact 1/72 figures often suffer the opposite problem: too tall and lanky, with undersized heads.
