Hey @L4, I like your paint job and appreciate your comments about camo, but aren't the bright yellow banners then a bit of an aiming point?!
Those are for game play … and wouldn't be actually used in the field on ops.
No need to be snippy.
That is just my "way" of talking. I'm a bit of a curmudgeon at times …
I'm a historian who also likes Sci-fi. Along with war gaming since the 60s. As well as playing 1 to 1 scale war games in my distant youth. As an Infantry Officer in 1 Air Assault Bn and 3 Mech. Deployed worldwide for over a decade.
I'm not an artist, Not someone who " wanted their figures to stand out, and its easier to paint a powered armor marine, say, blue or red, then with an intricate cammo pattern. "
So bear with me[Or Not], I'm wedded to my studies, training, experiences, etc.. I've commanded a Mech Company with 14 M113s. They look a lot like a Rhino. And can't see them painted in bright colors. Or any other AFV, military aircraft, etc., painted in circus colors. I'm s historian who likes sci-fi. Not an artist …
I think it is "Silly". On a battlefield You don't make yourself a target. I've deployed to jungles, frozen fields, the desert, etc. worldwide. So I have a strong predilection to being tactical. And still believe in using tac/camo colors.
And I highly doubt granny stopped painting marines in cammo, because sales. Its certainly not sales driven.
I Totally disagree. I've been involved with GW since 90. I have seen all their machinations. They are a model company and not a game company. The rules a very much secondary.
I have 2 degrees in business from a real university(YSU) not online. Almost everything GW did and has done is to drive up sales. They are in business. They went to bright colors to appeal to a larger base for sales. To bring in the "kids" (and others) who like "bright shiny things", etc. SM2/TL was a clear example of that, IMO.
So please everyone is entitled to their opinion. But don't preach to me about GW's fluff about painting in bright colors and their ever changing "lore". 40K is not sci-fi but Sci-fantasy. WE play Sci-fi Not Sci-Fantasy. That is our choice to ignore much of the 40K mythos.
And it is in my nature to jerk some chains when in comes to many things. And this case it's painting military equipment, etc. in circus colors. In the Infantry and Armor being full of Alpha males types. Paratroops, Rangers, Special Forces, etc., types. that is the environment I'm accustomed to. So when someone tries to tell me why they paint their army toys in circus colors. And shouldn't … I may have to be contrary, I can't help it.
And bottom line it's about playing with toys. It really is not that important. But I'm not one generally to step back from a "conflict" … even it is about how to paint toys … That's just my way. And I'm far too old to change … for anyone.
