link 'Montenegro's parliament has ratified the country's accession to Nato, despite strong domestic opposition and Russian disapproval. The vote in favour – by 46 out of 81 MPs – paves the way for Montenegro to join Nato late next month. All but two of Nato's 28 members have ratified the accord.' |

I'll sleep so much better knowing that we have the backing of such a strong ally. (sarcasm) |

Better to have them in the tent peeing out…. It's another Adriatic coastline denied to the Russians. |

As I'm sure you know, Nero Wolfe is a Montenegrin. He did sterling service for the US in WW2 so I'm sure he'd be available to help NATO in any trouble with Russia. More seriously, Stu is correct. Kotor & Bar are fabulous ports….I'm sure USAFpilot has seen them with his own eyes & can testify to their strategic worth. We were travelling through there last year & both were full of cruise ships. |

Yes, I was thinking more about geographic location rather than military capability. |

As a Dane, its disheartening to see the open contempt some TMPers hold people in, because they happened to be born in a poor country, rather than a rich one. |

Weasel, I have no contempt for the people of Montenegro or any country. Just don't think we should be expanding NATO at this time. Sorry if I offended anyone; not my intent. The stakes are high, and it is for political reasons, not military reasons why I am against NATO expansion. |

Must my point of view but..a little nation in the Balkan area..with same language, same religion, same culture of the neihbouring Serbia which is a friendly nation of Russia and which neighbouring Serbia was bombed by NATO planes in the most shameful action made by the western countries against another European Christian nation choosed to betray his brothers for a few money …how it s possibile to avoid to feel contempt for this state? |
ITALWARS | 29 Apr 2017 3:18 p.m. PST |
It has bene, obviously, not the people or Montenegro to choose this unatural alliance but the socialista party in power of usual corrupted tradition as all the socialist/globalist puppet proxies put in power to exploit people and stole money for a corrupted elite,,,a referendum was obviously denied |
zoneofcontrol | 29 Apr 2017 3:26 p.m. PST |
Weasel- Don't take my comment as deprecation. The geographic and population size would obviously limit the amount of armed contribution that could be made. However, the very location of the nation is a logistical prize. Never overlook that aspect. |

Montenegro has made their choice for their reasons. Wasn't that long ago that the balkans fell apart after Tito died. Not surprising that they are looking for stability. |

@USAFpilot: The problem is that those small, former-Soviet/WARPAC states don't want to become Russian client states again, so they are applying for NATO membership. Every single new NATO member has joined for that specific reason! |
USAFpilot | 30 Apr 2017 10:44 a.m. PST |
@Lion, Montenegro was formerly part of Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia was communist, but under Tito remained strongly independent of the Soviet Union. Yugoslavia was never part of the Warsaw Pact. Yes, I understand why countries would want to join NATO. The question is, is it good for NATO? |
