The hype on the new creative upgrade to windows 10 mentions being able to take a 2D image and change it to a 3D image using the 3D paint program which is in the upgrade. Has anyone tried this and would it be printable?

I haven't used it yet, but I'd assume that's a simple extrusion, where you take a 2d image and stretch it to be thicker.

Probably what it is. Photoshop already does it.

It is basically extrusion, might have some minor bells and whistles but I've not done more than glance at it. It is very easy to use however and free – yeah yeah, only if you have win10, yada yada.

An app that does it has been available for a fair while now. It only worked with simple shapes. The demo was a cannon I think.

You would still need to optimize and clean the file for 3D printing.
