Three TMWWBK games at Little Wars this week featuring battles from "The Man Who Would Be King." On Friday, we're running "Peachy & Danny's Excellent Adventure" Parts I & II. Part I is the battle against the Bashkai, as seen in the 1975 John Huston film featuring Sean Connery and Michael Caine. Part II features a hypothetical attack on the holy city of Sikandergul (the city where Danny becomes king) by Afghan raiders. Part III, on Saturday, is a caravan game in which Peachy & Danny attempt to escape through the Khyber Pass with the treasure of Alexander. Billy Fish will be there, too, along with his trusty kukri. Still have a few openings left. Come check us out!

Now THAT is a worthy theme.

Great idea! Wish I lived close enough to attend. Take plenty of pictures and post them. Post the scenarios on the scenario board.

I am with Rallynow. Please post an AAR with some photos. Sounds like a lot of fun.

PICS!

Can you give us hints about figures?

FearAndLoathing: you may or may not know that Rhingyll is in the process of building himself a unit of Peachy's Kafiristani Riflemen, complete with Martini-Henrys, that were carried over the Khyber Pass in those boxes on that trusty mule!

I feel like someone really should meld your and his equally brilliant hobby minds, so to speak, so here's a handy link to that other near-simultaneous MAN WHO WOULD BE KING colonial wargaming thread:

PS And yes, PLEASE, FearAndLoathing, as yet another gamer who wishes he could be there for your game but sadly can't -- no pressure… but if at all possible PLEASE post some pics of your game!!!

Will try and post from the games. Thanks for the link!

My armies are scrapped together from several sets of old ESCI 1/72 Muslim Warriors, RedBox Afghan Warriors and some 20mm Pathan cavalry from I can't remember where. Danny is from HAT's colonial dragoons, Peachy is from Waterloo's Anglo-Egyptian Army and Billy is an old Ral Partha ghurka sergeant.

Since this is a convention game I went with larger armies, generally about 9 units (32 points) for Peachy & Danny's army (5 tribal infantry, 2 cavalry and 2 irregular infantry) while their opponents are typically 12-unit forces of around 40 points, but with inferior weapons and slightly lower discipline.

To be honest, I had to borrow some Ansar from my Sudan forces to help fill out the Kafirs. Including some camels…

Sikandergul is built from buildings used in various Khartoum, Rif War, French Foreign Legion and "Wind & the Lion" games over the last 20 years.
