I cannot find the original posting but these seem to have huge potential, as figures in the Kinski style coat are almost impossible to find, plastic or not.

I worked for ages on conversions to make a few 2e Eclaireurs de la Garde. With these, adding a cylindric shako and mounted on an ACW horse…instant and far better.

My only worry. They seem to have some sort of pelisse over their shoulders, or is that just moulding work and will disappear? I can only hope so……

Col Blancard26 Apr 2017 8:55 a.m. PST

I think the line you see is made with a pen to help with the tooling process (where the mould line will be)

Interesting: they are not reusing the hussars horses (they could have been reused, couldn't they?).

Now you mention it, I also see the line on the side of the shako.

These will have enormous conversion potential, then. Horse Artillery gunners, 2e Eclaireurs, Netherlands Cavalry or Horse Artillery etc….just as long as they keep them simple around the torso. Not too much equipment to just get in the way…

The eagle shako I have been looking out for……Gardes d'Honneur head gear.

I agree about the gee gees. Far as I know French Hussars, Lancers and Chasseurs horse kit all identical.

Hello deadhead/Col, actually they will have the hussar horses, one of these horses shown here will end up as the trumpeters horse but the other was really a mock up(funnily enough for the programme 'How it's made'). But yes, they should be quite adaptable. I've actually made nine packs of Eclaireurs from the 1st and 2nd regts. in metal which I'm just waiting to be painted before I release them. Alan

Wow, fantastic! Can't wait for these

Col Blancard26 Apr 2017 9:54 a.m. PST

Thanks for the input Alan! it makes complete sense to reuse the horses.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP26 Apr 2017 10:04 a.m. PST

Oh wow…….Metal Eclaireurs…!!!

What more can we ask for? Long awaited (as were the Gendarmes d'Elite)

(well the Gardes d'Honneur, is one answer, I guess, because I know the more work I put into conversions, the more likely they will then appear and far better, in metal)

Thanks for this news. great work

I'm amazed Alan has had time to produce these when he has surely been so busy working on all those British ADCs and other staff….(HINT HINT! GROVEL GROVEL!!)

Markconz26 Apr 2017 5:01 p.m. PST

Excellent, one can never have too many Chasseurs!

As the actress said to the bishop…….

Footslogger27 Apr 2017 2:13 a.m. PST

I made my own chasseurs in Kinski some years ago, converting them from hussars.

I have all I need.

I shall still buy more.

Tango0127 Apr 2017 11:24 a.m. PST

Glad you like them too boys!

Alan, if you put a lancer head on the sprue, couldn't these also be used as (2nd rank) lancers? Or do you have plans for lancers in plastic too?

Alternatively, maybe I could use the carabinier heads (I have hundreds spare from the heavy cav boxes)? I see the shape is essentially the same, maybe the slightly different design could just be a sneaky paintjob? What do people think?

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP29 Apr 2017 4:22 a.m. PST

Fur turban from Greenstuff would transform the carabineer heads, which I have always thought were slightly too narrow in the coronal plane.

Other makers have done it recently, simply changing heads for chasseurs to become lancers…….. and lancers for second rank, other than just shouldered sword pose, would be very welcome

Musketier29 Apr 2017 5:04 a.m. PST

Please, pretty please, could we have a few arms holding carbines and pistols? Chasseurs (and hussars) would have spent more time skirmishing than charging around…

Fur turban from Greenstuff

Thanks deadhead, I might have a crack at that.

Elite Miniatures has Chasseurs a Cheval in the Kinsky in case you are not aware. What I've been looking for and not able to find is the long coat used at the beginning of the Empire period. All I've ever found is the dolman or the late period uniform.

pessa0029 Apr 2017 8:58 p.m. PST

Wait, so I can use these for 1809! Thank ****. FINALLY. I've been waiting from someone to make plastic CaC for use in 1809 period for a long, long time…

If someone had done another set only useful for 1812+ I think I might have burst something :)

Good times.

When they say laced 'breeches'…..

These look good.Plastics appear to be getting better and better with each release.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP30 Apr 2017 1:51 a.m. PST

Laced breeches, I think they are referring to the chevrons on the front of each thigh, seen in full dress in most French Light cavalry units ….."Hungarian Breeches" with boots exposed….not the buttoned stripe down the side of the overalls.

Plastics have that great conversion potential and allow numbers to be built up. Often wondered about the investment needed to create those sprues. OK, if you can then hammer them out by the thousand cheaply, fine. But you have to be sure they will sell to recoup the start up costs. I gather they are astronomical, to create the moulds.

I am sure these will do brilliantly.

2e Eclaireurs in metal…..even better!

pessa0030 Apr 2017 2:43 a.m. PST

In general plastic is not my favourite medium. But I have to say in the case of cavalry, the savings in $ and weight make them very compelling.

Love the Perry plastic horses too. I have their French hussars and the horses are a real highlight for me.

Rittmester30 Apr 2017 8:05 a.m. PST

It would be soooo great if you did a sprue with horses with the pointed shabraque Alan :) It would create a multitude of easy conversions with your hussar and now CaC sets- Saxon, Danish and Swedish hussars and probably a multitude of other light cavalry.

Lord Hill30 Apr 2017 9:45 a.m. PST

a sprue with horses with the pointed shabraque

Couldn't agree more! It might bankrupt me, but please do it!

Glencairn02 May 2017 2:27 a.m. PST

This set will finally give gamers a chance to pursue authenticity as regards French Hussar uniforms on campaign, especially in Spain. The laced dolman was too expensive to wear for day-to-day duties, fighting included. Might I suggest doing the command figures at least, in dolman (without pelisse), thus giving an idea of the elaborate uniform, and the rank and file in these kinskis?
