I'm thinking here of things like recovery vehicles, not just transport. Which ones, and why? |

I've used them in campaign type games and if the tactical scale warranted it. It's been a while, but I had trucks with cargo in the back for supply vehicles. Maintenance vans and recovery vehicles. I also had more use for engineering units as well. |

Extra Crispy: Yup. Recovery vehicles, engineering vehicles, bulldozers, Universal Carriers with ammo for troops, Arty FOO vehicles, ambulances, buses, horse drawn wagons, carts and limbers, supply trucks and chow wagons/trucks have all been used in my games. Also streams of PP refugees to clog up roads and make target acquisition that much more important. Cheers and good gaming. Rod Robertson. |

No, since most scenarios and/or rules don't require them, or even cover them, and usually its a post-battle activity on the recovery side of things, unless that is the scenario goal. I do plan on using FOOs, but not sure if I'll even include artillery on the table, other than perhaps mortars, and/or SPs with mortars in them, since I don't compress the game range scale like the FOW/TY people do, nor do I plan to. That saves me a ton of money on guns, trucks, and other miscellaneous vehicles that can be plowed into fielding more tanks, APCs/IFVs, halftracks, troops, etc., etc., that do see the "sharp-end" of the fighting. |

I started using such vehicles in my CoC games I run. Most recently I just finished a modified tank kit for an American M32 in 1:48 scale. My plan for this is a possible objective marker…U.S. tank recovery crew with some M.P.s attempting to recover a broken down German tank of some sort and a German patrol interrupts this operation…more to follow. Such vehicles give that extra variety and flavor of the unexpected for WWII skirmish level games. P. |

My ideal skirmish scenario is the defense of a support vehicle. |

Medics/ambulances are a feature and one day (when I write a rule) civillians for our 54mm games – but really only because we have some and they look great. OTH ammo carriers for MMGs are going to become a factor now that we're having them made up for our 28mm games. |

Hey Mark,I sent you an email the other day wondering if you got it? |
Legion 4 | 26 Apr 2017 8:44 a.m. PST |
It depends on how long a game turn is, etc. And Medics are always evacing WIAs. Resupply depends on if they need to or can get to a Resupply Point or to the unit that needs it. They are not meant to go into direct battle if they don't have to. They may link up with the unit XO, 1SG or Unit Supply personnel at a point behind the lines. That is the standard method/SOP. Recovery/Maint. Vehicles rarely go forward into battle but are kept near by if needed. They are a limited asset. You don't want to lose them. In most situations they don't get involved until an area is secured or after the battle. Arty FOO They are right up there with/next to the unit Cdrs'. They are always at the front. engineering vehicles Combat Engineers are up front with the Infantry and Tanks. Or in some cases before … |

I'd have to say that not enough people use combat engineering vehicles in their games (which is really a shame, those are awesome models!). I'm trying to get used to only having 1 FO for my Flames of War WW2 forces, even though I have multiple arty and mortar batteries in play. I'm used to only having one Observer helo in Vietnam. My FACs usually have their own Humvee, but that's about it for modern/ultramoderns. Need the Engineer Strykers and trailers! |

All the time – supply, command/RT vehicles, engineer transports, etc. In our last WW2 Normandy game a M32 towed a knocked out Sherman off a bridge to clear it for others to pass. [URL=http://s140.photobucket.com/user/Richard_Baber/media/IMG_0783_zps5uy1psju.jpg.html]

Depends on the scale of the castings and the level of the combat. In micro-armor using vehicle vs vehicle rules, like our Fire Ogon Freur, then yes. In 28mm, ARC vehicles can be objectives or a feature. Many support items that do not affect play with organic weapons to affect a skirmish battle is ok. For tactical and larger games no. |
Legion 4 | 27 Apr 2017 11:38 a.m. PST |
As I said, it depends on the time scale of each turn. I.e. the game may end before a Recovery Vehicle can get to the broken vehicle to "recover" it. As shown by Richard's post. |

I used to use 1 supply truck per battalion with (4) units of supplies in it that got removed during each turn any platoons in the battalion were engaged in combat — mechanics from an article in Wargamers Digest. I do use combat engineering vehicles for relevant scenarios. Am adding tank recovery vehicles now for Girls und Panzer matches to clear KO'd tanks off the field. |

YES. Almost a neccesity at 1/144 scale. Soft vehiles to allow the Watch platoons to bug out when the enemy get too close. Mine Ploughs/rollers for minefields. Engineeing vehicles, for instance to pull out vehicles under fire when they have got damaged proving a cleared lane or when a vehicle is blocking a key Road. Bridge layers obviouley. Not really used the Imediate Replenishmant Group as so far I have managed to keep vehicles away from the front when re-supplying. |

For my ww2 British in North Afrika I have a small number of vehicles from the old Lesney range- a mighty Antar, a tanker, radio truck and a few other bits (ok so theyre from the wrong decade, whaddya gonna do eh?). When its my opponents turn I amuse myself by having them trundle around refueling tanks, collecting broken down ones etc |
