Outremer : Faith and Blood: Skirmish Wargames in the Crusades is an upcoming set of rules from Osprey Wargames but I cannot find anything about it online. Does anyone have any information on game mechanics? I'm particularly interested if the rules cover the Northern Crusades, although the title seems to rule that out.

According to the Japanese Amazon site…the title is by Jamie Gordon and the release date is April 17, 2018, or about a year from now. No mention on the Osprey site.

I saw that, thanks. It's unusual to have a cover before a description of the rules! I'm wondering how they are different from Lion Rampant?

Looks like lion and dragon rampant are being phased out by osprey? There's a new book of fantasy rules on the way too.

Hard to believe they will 'phase out' the Dan Mersey rules. More likely these will either be very period specific and/or for smaller numbers of figures.
And remember Osprey are just publishers: they pretty much seem to leave rules to flourish or flounder on their own.

Hmm. On that thread the author says it'll be small skirmish, smaller than Lion Rampant.

Small skirmish would I think be more suited to the Northern Crusades than the Middle East.

Hello Guys;

I'm the author of this game; I can confirm it is a small scale skirmish game based around warbands of 4-14 warriors. There will be a strong focus on Warband development and campaign play; with every warrior being an individual character.

While I agree the Northern Crusades would suit small warbands I also feel that the setting of Outremer is perfect for this too. The majority of battles in the Levant were small scale skirmishes and the continuing arrival of small bands of Crusaders and Pilgrims over the 200 years that the Crusader States held really suits this type of game.

I'll be trickling more info out via my blog as the publication date draws closer:

classicastartes.blogspot.co.uk

I can't reveal too much now about specifics regarding gameplay until it has been signed off by the publisher.
