Who is Daniel Mersey?

DisasterWargamer Supporting Member of TMP25 Apr 2017 7:36 p.m. PST

Daniel is one of the authors of the Skirmish level gaming set from Osprey

Interesting bio on the Osprey website
"Daniel Mersey has spent three decades leading miniature armies to spectacular defeat on ancient, medieval, and colonial battlefields. He has won no medals and his armies will never salute him. His previously published games include Lion Rampant (Osprey, 2014), Dux Bellorum (Osprey, 2012), Song of Arthur and Merlin (Ganesha Games, 2008), and Glutter of Ravens (Outpost Wargame Services, 1998)."

and on Amazon – Daniel Mersey's previous games include Lion Rampant, Dux Bellorum, Song of Arthur and Merlin, and Glutter of Ravens. He has written many articles for the major wargaming magazines over the past two decades and has authored several non-gaming books.

I own several of Daniel's rules: Glutter of Ravens, Dux Bellorum, Rampant Lions, etc. My favorite is DB. I will be purchasing his introductions (thisnamd the other, 1066 perhaps?) when they are released.

I've loved every one of his works that I've purchased. Possibly my favourite author in the industry now. Must resist…

Daniel Mersey is one of the best writers and game designers at Osprey (or anywhere for that matter). He is a good writer, has a sense of humor and creates very playable rules that have period flavor. He is not a writer for button counters and people believing they are running a simulation when they game.

One advantage the wargamer has, he can coordinate the Zulu attacks.

Besides Isandhlwana, the Zulus were never able to properly coordinate, and thus ended up attacking British positions piecemeal.

Wargames give a Zulu Induna command and control he never would have had in reality.
