Joe, Very cool man, thanks for posting. Having said that, if you can't convert your own brothers, how much of a wargaming sage can you really be? ;) I'm not familiar with Combat Commander, but the East Front factory and Tobruk skirmishes looked pretty cool. Take more pics next time! The good Lieutenant appears to be doing well for himself. I don't understand 'sprung' sails, but I get box/stern rakes, and it sure seemed to me like there were some magic dice were at work for the Frenchman to have 18-pdrs and not fare so well, capped by you crossing the 't.' I also liked your little marker for the rowboats; you need to use that for some amphibious landings! In any case, very cool stuff, and I look forward to more. V/R, Jack |

Will look forward to Sails Forward, hopefully it could work with Galleys and Galleons from Ganeshaa Games. |

Jack, I never claimed to be a sage about anything. But in my defense my brother is an idiot. ( I got the brains and the looks!) I had a great response about your lack of understanding sprung sails but I promised no marine jokes until May. Please remind me next month! BTW I actually posted the correct link thanks to you. I don't actually understand sprung sails either but believe they are damaged enough that you can't keep them taught enough to hold the wind. ( actually to keep teh airflow over their surface) In game terms they don't work and stress the rigging so the mast will eventually break. BWX, should work fine. Am writing it generically like Platoon Forward so if you are attacked by a 12 gun cutter you use whatever is in your rules. To keep it balanced the bigger your ship the higher chance of you meeting bigger ships. Was thinking about adding the war of 1812 to it. Cheers Joe |

Joe, et. al. Actually it's not the sails that are sprung, but the mast containing the sails. What it means is that the web of standing rigging that supports the mast has been damaged. That includes not only the shrouds (those connect to the sides of the ship) but the stays that run from mast to mast. That's why, in Post Captain if you lose a mast then the mast behind it is automatically sprung. You can keep sails on a sprung mast, but you are courting disaster since the pressure of the wind on the sails will contribute to the sprung mast failing. BWW |
