Do you print any of the PDF books you buy for gaming ? I confess I do because I like a book to refer to when Im painting. |

My group is rather high-tech… if we are using pdf rules then there is usually at least two laptops on the table. Just to keep each side in check ;) |

No confession needed, if a PDF does not allow printing I will not buy it normally. Rule books I print a copy, perhaps two or three if allowed – that way the umpire and each side can have a copy to read at the game table. Scenario books I only print out the relevant bits for a particular scenario. |

I don't prefer PDF. I'd rather have a hard copy to cut, punch and put in a binder. I always compare costs; (PDF + printing) vs (book + S/H). As mentioned above, if a PDF doesn't allow for printing, I move on to another product. |

Yes – which is why I'd rather just have a book… …I get to print out lots of lovely colour pages …then I have to get a folder or some sort of "binding" for them. It's a pain compared to a printed book. |

I have yet to purchase a PDF. If there are any sort of graphics involved, it has to come in a paper format, PDF isn't a consideration. |

Yep. I have a laser printer with duplex. I print em all. I own a load of them. |
Joes Shop | 23 Apr 2017 7:23 a.m. PST |
Yes, but it's rare that I purchase a pdf; certainly don't prefer it. When I do I print it. |

No pdfs here, prefer good ol books. |

Sometimes I print them up, and sometimes I don't. |

I usually print them and staple them, or just read them on a tablet. |

If I had my choice, I'd rather have books. But PDFs are usually so much cheaper, especially when you include shipping from the US, and it honestly is nice to have the ability to print out charts, or army lists or make your own charts and QRF from a PDF. I usually print out about 75% or so of my PDFs, and get them coil bound at Staples. And, actually, coil bound books are much, much better than perfect bound rulebooks when you are using them on the table. I think the only company to realize that is Peter Pig! And there is no such thing as unprintable PDFs if you know what you're doing. It's not stealing. I bought the bloody thing and if I want to print it out, then its my decision. Under US law, it is permissible to do. |

Dittos with Tony S. I also like to have them available for reading on my tablet for when I'm away from home. |

I used to print out the ones I was using (certainly NOT all of the 1000+ rules on PDF that I own) but lately I have just been putting them on the tablet (or even my phone, if it is a small set.) |

From a naysayer a decade ago, now I buy rules almost exclusively as PDFs. I occasionally print copies of reference sheets for other players, but otherwise just use a tablet. |
Calico Bill | 23 Apr 2017 4:20 p.m. PST |
Same. It's easier to just leave it on the tablet and maybe print out charts or reminder sheets. |

With the cost of shipping going up I usually end up purchasing the PDF and I do print most of them off. Particularly if I intend to game them a lot. I own a binding machine so I can print and bind at home. I'll also print the PDF that you sometimes get with a printed book. That way the book stays in great shape on my shelf and I can use the printed PDF at the table. I also love having the PDF rules on my tablet to read anywhere. |
Wolfshanza | 23 Apr 2017 11:04 p.m. PST |
Old fashioned so ah print the PDFs and use them as books. |
Ney Ney | 24 Apr 2017 8:18 a.m. PST |
Me, I still prefer printed book. I don't have to many pdf rules but if i was playing them regularly I think I would want to print them. I'm not sure I'd buy a pdf if there was no way to print it. |

Yes. I don't do digital-only. I prefer a printed book. For something with high production values with lots of art and photos (GW, Mantic, Battletech, Osprey etc) I'll generally go buy the printed book. However I've bought and printed (or had a buddy print) dozens of rulesets. I've never bought digital rules that didn't have the option to print. Alot of good games just don't require much graphics or many pages, and many companies are even nice enough to sell you PDF's that includin both full-color-hi-res and easy-to-print-low-ink versions. Song of Blades, Mech Attack, and many others are all printed and sitting binders on my shelf. |
