Hi, My son is graduating from high school this spring and, given his passion for all things Roman, I thought I might collect one (replica) coin from each emperor and frame them as a present. Does anyone have any recommendations for places to purchase good quality replica Roman coins? My field is classical archaeology, so I know what to buy but not where to buy them, so to speak! I'm in Helsinki, so EU sources would be best. Cheers, Christopher |

Were they all around long enough to mint their own coinage? link |

I don't think we have extant coinage from all the "emperors" – especially from the turbulent 3rd century – but a majority representation should be possible. As to whether the minor emperors are popular enough to have warranted replicas being made and sold on the popular market … that's what I'm trying to find out! |

Don't have a clue, but you could start checking prices on eBay. Probably overly expensive there, but perhaps not, if they are replicas. Looks like even real ones aren't that expensive, since apparently they're fairly numerous: auction $2.00 USD – $2.50 USD for uncleaned ones, with free shipping seems extremely reasonable. |

Yes, ironically a good reproduction is often more expensive than collecting minor artifacts, however I have professional and moral objections to the trade in actual artifacts (which we don't have to get into here). |

Never mind, I see you don't want real coins. |

Some museum gift shops sell replica coins. The British museum does a Twelve Caesars set for instance. |

I sell replica Roman coins, usually in packs of 14. However I could probably put together a pack of a dozen or so different ones at a very reasonable price. You can mail me via here:- link |

For many periods of ancient Rome, genuine coins are reasonably priced. |
